The Peoria, Decatur & Evansville Railway

Structures

The Evansville-Newton Turn was northbound on February 17th, 1918 when it tried to cross the Wabash River and found out the hard way that the swing bridge was not properly locked into position.  Two "coal" cars were keeping the locomotive above water.  Some of the crew were Anderson (engineer), B. Straker (fireman), M.D. Alsop (brakeman), and C.G. Carlyle (brakeman).  Unknown Photographer.  O.L. French Collection
